Indonesian Vice Minister of Defence Witnesses MoU Signing between PT Pindad and Two Chinese Defence Companies

Jakarta – Vice Minister of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia, Donny Ermawan Taufanto, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PT Pindad (Persero) and two Chinese defence companies, Norinco and Sany Group. The historic signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia on Wednesday, 7 May 2025.
The event commenced with opening remarks from the President Director of PT Pindad, Sigit P. Santosa. In his speech, he stated that the cooperation is a concrete follow-up to the strategic 2+2 meeting between the Indonesian Minister of Defence and Minister of Foreign Affairs with their counterparts from the People’s Republic of China in Beijing some time ago.
“Thank you very much for this opportunity. It is a great honour for PT Pindad that the signing of this cooperation with Chinese companies is witnessed directly by the Vice Minister of Defence and held at the Ministry of Defence,” said the President Director of PT Pindad.
The cooperation with Norinco covers both defence and commercial industries, particularly in dual-use technology, which includes electric trucks and agricultural machinery for industrial sectors.
Meanwhile, the cooperation with Sany Group involves excavators and heavy equipment. The collaboration spans joint development, joint manufacturing, co-production, market share, and explores the possibility of local content in Indonesia.
“We believe that this cooperation will have a significant impact on PT Pindad across various sectors and will further enhance the capabilities of local industries in Indonesia,” said the President Director of PT Pindad.
Also present to witness the important moment were the Director General of Defence Potential at the Ministry of Defence, the Head of the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Defence, and the Special Advisor to the Minister of Defence for Defence Economics.
